Crank up your Victrola for some good old-fashioned parlor music, as Rudy Vallee meets vibrant old-time rhythm on Bill and the Belles’ “Good Friends Are Hard to Find.” The spry waltz opens with a gentle, spare air as Kris Truelson’s ringing vocals spiral higher and higher over guitar, uke, and fiddle notes and phrase that stroll around each other, inviting us to choose our partner and swirl across the floor to the music. The sparse loneliness of the verses elevate into an exultant community of friends in the spirited harmonies of the chorus. The musical setting for this tale about the challenges of friendship is perfect, for it captures the exquisite intimacy of good friends who endure with you through good times and bad times.
As Truelsen says of the song, "It’s the truth. Good friends are hard to find and when you hit bottom you find out quickly who your real friends are. I can say that I’ve been there and I hope to never go there again, but I’m so grateful to have gained clarity about the people in my life who really do have my back. What a gift! This is a song to give those who might have that unnerving sense of aloneness and loss some hope. There’s always going to be someone there for you if you look hard enough and this song serves as a reminder of that. Arco bass and poppy pizzicato fiddles lent some warm, classic vibes to this one."
"Good Friends Are Hard To Find" is from Bill & the Belle's forthcoming album, Happy Again out May 21st.
