Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, really? Folk? really?

I would say MilkDrive's new album WAVES. It's definitely at the top of my list, these guys are awesome!

Mariel Vandersteel's album "Hickory" is as wonderful as she is!

Mariel Vandersteele's "Hickory" is a great album!

Listen to Mariel Vandersteele's "Hickory". It is a great blend of Irish music, the fiddle style of Norway (she plays the Hardanger fiddle) and tunes from Appalachia. She creates a soulful and exciting palate of roots music, which is so very rich in texture.

Cahalen Morrison & Eli West, it's my fave of the ones I've heard.

Speaking of up and comers. Everyone should check out Out With The Crow by The Haunted Windchimes. A great CD from beginning to end. Check 'em out here: http://blanktaperecords.org/music/out-with-the-crow.html

Give Cahalen Morrison & Eli West, The James Low Western Front, and Peter Mulvey careful listens and tell me that any of these don't deserve inclusion in the top ten. It seems hard to have great small-scale lesser known acts competing with the Bonnie Raitt's of the world. I'd support some sort of "major artist" "up and comer" distinction.

Great list, some real gems in there. Glad to see Phoebe Hunt made the list, her recent CD is awesome, probably why it got there.

Another wonderful album not on the list is Emy Phelps' "Look Up Look Down." Her songwriting is wonderful, and she's got an amazing list of supporting musicians, including Darol Anger, Mike Block, and Brittany Haas.

The Stringdusters 'Silver Sky' is on the list, but it's last because we just added it last week...and our form won't let us sort it with the rest of the 'The' bands)....and yes, Goat Rodeo was last year.

Missing The Infamous Stingdusters - Silver Sky and The Goat Rodeo Sessions (maybe those were 2011...?)

Hi GeeRose, John Fullbright 'From the Ground Up' is on the list. He's one of our faves here at Folk Alley too!
