Description: I wrote this song with Melville's Billy Bud in mind. Insubordinate, the song hero is made to hang, but in the end, justice is visited on the ship. Another way of looking at it is as an anti-imperialist song. Written during the Vietnam war. You can substitute any country for England as the theme applies to the few rich and powerful countries as well as the once rich and powerful and the would-be rich and powerful.
