Description: Tarpaulin Cove is a real place; a small cove on the south side of Naushon Island in Massachusetts (across the sound from Marthas Vineyard). For centuries, sailors have been using the cove to escape what can be some pretty dangerous conditions on Vineyard Sound.
My friend, Steve, and I always said we wanted to sail there, and talked about it for several years. We finally said "Let's do it!" and started planning the trip. Before we could take the trip, my friend lost his lifelong battle with depression.
So, the song is about the real place, but it is also about the need we all have to find a place within us, where we can find shelter from life's storms, where we can regroup and find strength to face life's battles, or to maybe just hold on until the weather changes.
This song is dedicated to my best friend, Steve, who I miss every single day.
