Artist Biography:
*Folk Alley Featured Open Mic Artist of the Month - May/June 2017*

Nigel Wearne is an Australian folk/country singer-songwriter whose music has an intimate and poignant narrative. Equipped with personally handcrafted guitars, his music melds finger-style guitar, clawhammer banjo, folk and honest storytelling. Gleaning influence from Kelly Joe Phelps, Townes Van Zandt and Sun Kil Moon, he tells stories of forgotten rebels, mischievous bank robbers, wandering poets and his love of eggs. Nigel has performed at various music festivals throughout Australia, including the Port Fairy Folk Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Cygnet Folk Festival and Queenscliff Music Festival.

His 2012 album ‘Black Crow’ channels his love for Americana, bluegrass and folk with a timeless string-band sound, featuring mandolin, fiddle and double bass. 'Black Crow' garnered wide critical acclaim including a 4 star review in Rolling Stone Magazine (Australia) and a nomination for Best Country Album at The Age Music Victoria Awards (Australia). Recorded by Adelaide's Mick Wordley (Jeff Lang, Chris Whitley, The Waifs), Wearne's current album 'Drawing Circles' is a solo record that’s raw, compelling and reflective. With songs born of shadows and lucid reveries, the 14-song double album explores the dark corners of creativity and the irregular swells of life. A storyteller at heart, Nigel paints lyrical pictures with frayed poetic edges and honest grit. “One of Australia's emerging songwriters” (Tone Deaf) with “A delicate heart and crisp guitar" (The AU Review). "Warmth flecked with grit... beauty awaits" 4 Stars – Rolling Stone Australia.
