Artist Biography:
The New York Mandolin Ensemble is an eclectic group of experienced New York based musicians who seek to expand the traditional boundaries of mandolin music through their original compositions and carefully chosen arrangements of works in the classical, jazz, "downtown" and trad/ethnic genres.
Bio
Steven Antonelli has worked as a professional musician (guitar, mandolin, mandocello) and composer for over 30 years. Following his graduation from Berklee College of Music he moved to NYC where he performed at venues like Folk City, CBGB's, Beacon Theater, The Knitting Factory, Merkin Concert Hall and Avery Fisher Hall. Steven composed music for choreographers Hikari Baba and Ruby Shang and toured France extensively as a guitarist with Karole Armitage. As guitarist for composers Glenn Branca, Jeff Lohn and Virgil Moorefield, Steven performed in Chicago, France, England, Denmark and Sweden. Working at LaMaMa Theater, Steven composed for playwrights including John Jesurun, directed his own large ensemble concerts and produced over 100 concerts for NYC composers as curator of LaMaMa's 2nd Sunday Composer Series. He formed the NYME in 2007.

Wayne Fugate is one of the NY area's most versatile acoustic musicians, known for his work in many wide-ranging genres. A founding member of string band "Uncommon Ground," his credits include stage work with Tony Trischka, Hazel Dickens, Walt Michael, Jay Ungar, Kenny Kosek and Bill Keith. Wayne has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, The Great Hall at Edinburgh Castle, West Point and The Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts. Wayne has studied and performed with mandolin greats Barry Mitterhoff and Mike Marshall, teaches mandolin and is the author of two (soon to be three) instructional books through Alfred Publishing and Mel Bay.
