Ross Douglas has done several things in many places.
He was the piano player for The Choke Sisters, a satirical glam rock band fronted by the future Tony award winning director of Tommy- Des MacAnuff.
He toured much of the known world as the piano player for the theatre piece "Billy Bishop goes to War. "
He was Willie in Willie and the Wassailers, an extremely popular Shakespearean styled singing group - writing most of their material and producing their album "Dancing Round the Moon"
He spent 9 seasons as writer musician actor and musical director in the historic town of Barkerville B.C. as
This has produced a song writing style that one reviewer described as “Folk,Celtic,African Cajun,Caribbean Theatrical stuff filtered through the mind of a guy whose life was changed by the Beatles.”
He has 3 albums of original song
"Two Directions" -from which several songs were CBC favorites across Canada
Caribou Eclectic- inspired in large part by his summers in Barkerville. One of it’s songs Lovin Time was runner up in the Jazz Category of the 2004 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Another, Santa Samba is becoming quite the Christmas favorite .Cal Koat of Fairchild Radio called it “the best Christmas song I’ve ever heard.”
And yet another ,Kokanee Canary Canoe, won the Gold and Special Judges prizes in the 2009 Mid Atlantic Song Contest
His 3rd album The Art of you and I recorded in the Fall of 2006
has already provided three audience favourites – the darkly humorous “Ukulele Crime” the rather shameless “Hard not to Talk like Elvis” and the folk laced “Town for Tired People”
His songs have been praised for their wit, variety, humour and poetry. And often, because they’re just plain fun.
