FAQ's
How is the Artist Of The Month chosen? Each month the staff here at Folk Alley listens to new artists that have joined Folk Alley's Open Mic. We sample each artist's music that has contributed. Artists that have contributed at least three full length songs are awarded points in each of the following categories: musicianship, songwriting craft, and performance. The artist with the most points is then selected as the Artist of the Month. The Artist of the Month often gets a pretty big spike in plays, as they are featured in the newsletter as well as the front page of the website. I have uploaded several songs, but only 1 is showing up on the Open Mic home page We limit one song per artist on the home page, but if you click through to the numbered pages below the song list, you'll find all the songs that you have uploaded.
What happened to the ratings? Since ratings were basically to give feedback to the artist about his song, we have decided to use Applause instead. We strongly encourage members of Open Mic to applaud the efforts of other artists if you they feel that artist has contributed quality material.
If you like what someone is doing, please show them by clicking on the "applause hands". Applause is used for nothing else than encouraging another artist. It won't cost you anything :-)
In Memoriam
Folk Alley recently lost a very special listener who believed in the power of music and who embodied the folk community spirit. We are honored to present this special Open Mic feature to remember Ramunas Underys’ music.

Ramunas (Ron) Underys, a folk singer from the 60’s. He had the long black hair and he traveled with his family in a yellow VW bus. Music was his way of expressing his hopes, dreams, and deepest love. He began writing songs while working at summer camps for children, and continued to write until his final days.
