Students will learn the principles of transcendental meditation - practices that Donovan learned from the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and that Lynch has been active in introducing into U.S. schools. The plan is "to protect Scotland from its enemies and to bring peace, to stop violence and drug abuse" with the help of group meditation.

Phil Keaggy Inducted into Gospel Music Hall of Fame

Porter Wagoner Dies
Country legend Porter Wagoner died at the end of October. Wagoner joined the Grand Ole' Opry in 1957 after releasing his first album on RCA in 1955. His syndicated TV show ran for more than two decades and he was responsible for solidifying Dolly Parton's very early career - promoting her and recording a series of duets. For one of his final appearances, he opened for the White Stripes at Madison Square Garden this summer.

I love Phil Keaggy! At one of his concerts in the Houston area I won his album, "The Master and the Musician", which was on my turntable more often than anything during my college years.

Porter Wagoner released his first album the year I was born. I remember seeing him and Dolly hawk boxes of Breeze detergent ("with a towel in every one!") on his TV show back when our set was black and white and I was learning to tie my own shoelaces. I remember lots of bright blinding flashes on the TV screen from all of the rhinestones on their outfits, as they moved in front of the spotlights.

16 year old Anthony da Costa, a Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk winner in 2007, wrote a song about Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton - a young man's impressions of love and life and the couple and what could have been.
See the video of Anthony's song, "Dolly and Porter", from his performance live at the 19th annual international folk alliance in memphis, tn. performance alley showcase on the knoxville stage here:

Rick Spreitzer of Charlotte, NC wrote a song called "Porter Wagoner" (from his album, "Dirt Tracks" 2004), about a forgotten small town highway diner's big experience of a lifetime, and of memories and things we keep around, like that T-bone in a pickle jar from the day Porter Wagoner stopped through on his way to somewhere..

Porter was bigger than life, and so was his hair back in the day. He will not be forgotten.

I was able to sing back-up for Phil at a solo concert in MD. He had a song "that just needs back up", so he asked if some folks from the audience would come up to the mike and sing harmonies for the song "Sunday's Child". I had always had the fantasy of being called to the mike during a concert. This was my shot. We sounded pretty good in my opinion. Funny, he didn't ask me to go on tour or anything . . .
