Pamela Anderson to Host JUNO Awards

March 2, 2006

Actress/It-girl Pamela Anderson (who I didn't even know was Canadian) will act as host for the 35th Annual JUNO Awards on April 2 in Halifax, NS. Although generally hosted by an actual musician, Anderson (who was married to Motley Crue's Tommy Lee and dated Kid Rock) is sure to bring a celebrity flair to the event. Anderson says, "Canadian music rocks. This is going to be one kick-ass awards show."

In other JUNO news, Great Big Sea's Alan Doyle will be leading the CARAS Songwriters' Circle earlier JUNO day, featuring JUNO nominees http://www.marthawainwright.com/ and Ron Sexsmith.

Anderson and the other performers and presenters at this year's awards ceremony take home a gift bag with treats that include a hydro massage, fragrances from Chanel, a Danier Leather travel bag valued at $395, a Dyson vacuum, M.A.C Cosmetics, a pair of PF Flyers, a Sony Ericsson W600 Walkman Phone, a queen-size down duvet and pillows from Westex International and plenty more to make the trip to Halifax worth it.

Jeez. Now the rest of the music world will take us seriously.

Yeah...my sentiments exactly, Scott.
Wonder how many of the items in those nifty gifty packages will end up on eBay...

Nothing says Canadian Music like great big ....OO.....er, stars!

Lets we forget - beside Pamela, Canada has given the world the likes of Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Ian & Sylvia, Gordon Lightfoot, Bruce Cockburn, Buffy St. Marie, Joni Mitchell, James Keelaghan and many, many more.

...and Canadian Folk singer/song writer introduced me to FOLK ALLEY (bless him)!

Well, Pam'll have to dress warm..it's cold up there in Halifax! Perhaps it's her... sense of humor which got her this gig??

Last year, I think a comedian hosted, so maybe they're just looking a good personality. In all honesty, I bet Pam is going to be a lot of fun. She knows music and she doesn't take herself too seriously.

Posted by: Ann VerWiebe at March 20, 2006 10:18 AM

I agree with you Ann, I happen to like her simply because she does have fun without taking herself too seriously.

Posted by: Jack Swain at March 20, 2006 10:31 AM

Okay, well, she does have an infectious laugh
and pretty teeth...and bright eyes.....and she probably did pay attention all these years, so
a pretty smart cookie, that gal. (I was serious
about her sense of humor - that's a given.)

Unfortunately the JUNOS with PAM is a TV show that you might want to miss - Roots ( the closest category to Folk ) won't be part of the show since it isn't classified as mainstream. How does that make you feel - I guess it goes along with Folk being ignored by too many radio stations - but that's why we love Folk Alley.

"Roots" music not mainstream?... kind of thought music "of the people, by the people, for the people" would be mainstream, if any thing might be. Everybody comes from somewhere...some root culture or combination thereof. Have we become so homoginized and assimilated that we've lost our heritage?
Thanks FOLK ALLEY for helping to keep our heritage alive...and it's thriving, I'd say (not that Juno would reccognize)!

Ok - Junos have been awarded.
Guess the Folk categories ?????
Roots Traditional Album Solo - the winner is:
Corb Lund for the album "Hair In My Eyes Like A Highland Steer".
Roots Traditional Album Group - The Duhks for "The Duhks".
Aboriginal Recording - Burnt Project 1 and the album "Hometown".
And in the Adult Alternative Album category - Neil Young's "Prairie Wind".
Congratulations to The Duhks and Neil Young.
I wonder if Jim Blum will be featuring Corb Lund's Album - hmmmmmm

Bob-- Thanks for the update - see above

And, I don't know about playing Corb Lund. I'd almost be tempted to buy the CD myself - but it's only available down here as an import. Maybe I'll send cash when my parents make their yearly trek northward.

Oh boy! New music!

What's "Adult Alternative Album" signify?
I've listened to Neil Young's "Prairy Wind" and love and respect it, but I'm puzzled by the designation of this as an 'Adult' album...compared to what..."Children's Alternative"? Perhaps it is to signify that a younger person might not be capable of comprehending this music, as something far and above their intellectual abilities to understand? Is there also a "Young Adult Alternative" category? Can't multi-generations make music together, side-by-side, in the same studio or theatre at the samed time?
I will never understand the music industry...
