Arias Handed out in Sydney

The 19th Aria Awards were passed out by the Australian Record Industry Association Sunday night at the Sydney SuperDome. Singer/songwriter Missy Higgins picked up five prizes - including best new artist, album of the year and highest selling album - for The Sound of White. The Roots/Blues award went to Mia Dyson, who is way pumped up.

Not this year, but he has a new CD coming out this year, so maybe next go around! I think Eric Bogle is great as well. He's currently touring the U.S. and Canada, so you might get a chance to see him in person (www.ericbogle.net).

Australian singer/songwriter Nigel Foote has been selected as a Top 5 Finalist in the folk category of the Australian 2005 National Musicoz Awards, to be judged on Dec 1. (www.musicoz.org)

Nigel's song, The Ballad of C. F. Martin, about the founder of the legendary guitar making family can be heard on Nigel's album, Home By Dark, available on Nigel's new independent Folksinger Label from Dec 4. www.folksinger.com.au
