Dream Big
Great song but it almost despresses me. If Ryan Shupe & the RubberBand can't sell a million records with this song - how am I ever going to write a hit?

Wrong reasons
Don't write hits. Write from the heart, and thank God you have the talent for it. Everything else is just wishful thinking.

No hits?
Don't write hits. Write from the heart, and thank God you have the talent for it. Everything else is just wishful thinking.
I'm actually not really that concerned about writing a hit. I've written or co-written on probably a hundred songs and never even sent one in to a publisher. Music for me is much more for the sheer enjoyment of playing and listening as opposed to 'business'. Got your CD last month, it is very good. I bought it after hearing Desert Rain and Primitive Mind on Folk Alley.

Real Life
Glad to hear that you let music be a part of your life, but don't let it run your life. I've been writing and playing since I was a kid on the farm, but never wanted to be a staff writer because I didn't like most of what I was hearing. A few songwriting seminars cemented my opinion of "the biz". I worked in the mines and went to computer school at night instead. From what I know of those friends who got truly wrapped up in music as a way to earn a living, I made the right choice. When AMAZ offered me a three-CD deal last year, I thought they were nuts, but what the heck? They're easy to deal with, have a great producer in Kyle Harris, and I can keep my day job. Who knows whether these CDs will ever get "big" or not, as a matter of fact I rather hope they don't intrude too much on my life. Just spent a quiet weekend in the Eagletail Mountains, photographing Ajo Lilies and enjoying the scenery. Try doing THAT on a tight tour schedule! By the way, if you want a digital pic of the elusive Ajo Lily, and some other interesting scenic shots from last weekend, e-mail me at jim_pipkin@yahoo.com and I'll send a few of them over.

Just the right time...
Right now, I'm into the second of two weeks that have been filled with stressful and adverse events, and this song just picked up my flagging spirits and made me feel a whole lot better. :)
