Best version I've ever heard of the Townes Van Zandt classic. Tecumseh valley is in southeastern Kentucky, just about 20 miles southwest of Spencer. My family is from that area, and I remember it well.
I can't listen to this song without tears in my eyes. It is an all too accurate accounting of the tough times in appalachian coal country, which are getting tougher all the time.
Here's to you, Townes. Steve Earle said you were the best song writer in American history, and I have to agree with him, or Guy Clark will kill me.

Nanci and Arlo do a great job on this song. This album is one of my all-time favorites.
