ADDINGRoots by Show of Hands Excellent lyrics and great energy. The more I hear it, the more I appreciate the sentiment expressed. Very true - if we lose our stories and music, how WILL we know who we are? posted byKaren Patton on March 11, 2008, 05:52:24 pm | Show of Hands I was stationed in Suffolk county England around 1990 and enjoyed going to the Butley Oyster for Sunday night sing song. When we were planning our trip back in 2006, I called to see if they were still having their sing song night and was told that they had to quit because the government had levied an extra entertainment tax on pubs even if the performers were doing it for free. The all mighty dollar/pound has drowned us again. It was a great place to go to hear the old folk songs and the telling of stories. :-( posted by Gerald Hudson on January 29, 2009, 01:45:19 am | Old songs are not dead I find the sentiments of Steve and Phils songs really draw attention to the need to continue to support live music.
It is great that they feel strongly enough to say it out loud and put their money where their mouths are by supporting up and coming folk artists here in the UK and Europe when they tour.
They have regularly featured Folk Duo - Megson on their tours.
Megson bring with them a a strong musical background, with a mix of their own songs and well researched and beautifully arranged songs from the past (particularly their home and roots in Teeside).
More power to their elbows.
I also feel lucky to have seen Show of Hands live last year at Union Chapel. An excellent show, full of suprises, great songs and finishing with Cousin Jack . wow!!
Best wishes from a happy Cousin Jack on a snowy evening, not so far from home, just a few hundred miles east of the Tamar.

What a powerful sentiment that without our roots we can't actually reach for the future. Boy do I ever wish we had more live grassroots folk music here in southern Ontario. posted by Graham Cubitt on December 17, 2010, 10:56:10 am |
