Study some history!
- of this song and the Erie Canal. I was amazed to hear Bruce singing this song. I hadn't heard any version of it in decades! I love it!

Because...
I didn't find it boring at all! Quite enjoyable
Most time it rests on F minor, that's why I find it boring. Fm Fm Fm Fm... yawn.

Re: History
- of this song and the Erie Canal.
Sorry, but if I was interested of the text, I would read poems. Or I would listen to Rap and those stuff. But I hear music because I am interested of melodies, harmonies and arrangemets. The phantasy of the composer - this counts.

Excellent river song!
Things on the river in the 1800's did not move fast, and it is amazing that this quality of river life is somehow captured in this song. A little mix of cajun flair to reinforce the water theme is also well enjoyed. A true masterpiece!

re: Erie Canal
I think it is a combination of text(lyrics) AND melodies that makes a song great. This has traits of both with a swampy cajun flaire.
