ADDING

Mary Chapin Carpenter
More years ago than I care to admit this young girl opened for Emmy Lou Harris No one in the audience knew who she was. Years later my young son and I waited at a Border's Books for 9 hours to meet her and get an autograph. We'd both do it again This song talks to me.. as most of hers do Just another masterpiece from one of the greatest singer/songwriters around today. That's my opinion and I'm stickin to it

Back in the day
Back when Mary was still working a day job, she used to get her guitars fixed by a man who rented the garage behind my sister's house outside DC. Sis was publishing a music magazine at the time, and gave Mary one of her very first "cover stories". A very nice lady, and a brilliant songwriter - with great taste in guitars!

Mike Dove, Incredible Luthier
That guitar repairman in back of your sisters house is the redoubtable Mike Dove, now working exclusively for The Guitar Shop on M St NW at Conn Ave. He is the go to guy for repairs in the DC area. He does work for all the bigs.

Before They Were Famous
I had a similar experience to Steve's — but it was with Alison Krauss. While I was attending college in Champaign, Illinois about 20 people saw a local band called "Union Station" at a spaghetti joint. This 12-year-old girl got up and played some incredible fiddle. (She didn't sing.) I thought, "Wow, who's that?!" Now I know. I still have the old "Union Station" business card that I picked up that night — probably a collector's item by now.
