 In the late 1960s, David Bromberg was a popular member of the Greenwich Village coffeehouse scene. As a virtuosic guitarist, writer and arranger, he worked with other artists including John Hartford, Bob Dylan and Tom Paxton. He fronted his own band for awhile and had success with a sound that was influenced by roots and jugband music – as well as ‘70s rock. After poor sales for an album in the early ‘80s, Bromberg gave it all up, moving to Chicago and learning how to make violins. He performed occasionally, but it wasn’t until a series of unplanned events produced a CD and he suddenly found himself again in demand as a performer that he decided to revisit touring.
Now living in Wilmington, Delaware, Bromberg is backed by The Angel Band, a trio he recruited to work with him onstage that includes his wife, Nancy Josephson (Jen Schonwald and Kathleen Weber complete the ensemble). The group played to an enthusiastic crowd at the Kent State Ballroom during the grand finale mainstage concert of the 41st Kent State Folk Festival.
This concert was recorded live at the Kent State University Ballroom in Kent, Ohio during the 41st Kent State Folk Festival in November 2007 by contributing producer Cousin Jimmie Wilson.
