Focus On: Suzzy Roche

In the late 1970s and into the '80s, The Roches – three sisters named Maggie, Suzzy and Terre – built a terrific following around their music, which combined tight harmonies with touching, insightful, and often, wickedly funny lyrics. Quintessential New Yorkers, they earned holiday money performing carols on street corners as children and, even as singer/songwriters fell out of vogue in the '90s, The Roches released We Three Kings, a Christmas album that became an instant classic. The acoustic blending of voices of the trio was temporarily broken when they announced a hiatus beginning in 1997. The decade off from touring as a group prompted Terre and Suzzy to record solo works. Suzzy's Songs from an Unmarried Housewife and Mother, Greenwich Village, USA was inspired by her new role after the birth of her daughter, Lucy (by singer/songwriter Loudon Wainwright III). After two CDs featuring Suzzy and Maggie, the sisters are back together again with Moonswept, returning to their harmonic roots.
