A well-respected session musician before he turned his attentions to solo work, Darrell Scott was known to Nashville, but not to the listening public. His life's journey has taken him from Kentucky to Indiana steel country and California (where he played with his father and brothers in a family band), and on to Boston (the heart of the American folk revival) and Toronto. Scott's extreme skill as a songwriter (his numerous awards include 2007 Americana Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year from ASCAP in 2002 and from the Nashville Songwriters Association International in 2001) was the core of a set that locked the audience to the stage with a performance that had the strength of a high-powered electro-magnet. Ironically, his latest CD Modern Hymns (his first on Appleseed) is a collection of covers, paying respect to Scott's musical influences from Bob Dylan and Gordon Lightfoot to Leonard Cohen and Guy Clark.
