A really good Christmas album

Album Rating: (5 of 5 stars)
Review Comments: Original Christmas songs and a few traditionals done in a Tull style of mild rock mixed with Renaissance troubadors. Sensitive and insightful lyrics, perfectly matched tunes. After 3 Christmases with this it has become one of the favorites of my family. It is quite enjoyable; seasonal, original, old tyme flavour in a British style.
My favorite Christmas CD

Review Comments: Jethro Tull's style is tailor-made for a Christmas sound so this album rings a lot truer than the obligatory holiday purges issued by most of the Nashville schlockmeisters and quite a few pop stars as well.
This was the first album of new Tull music I'd bought in 25 years. I lost track of Tull in the early 80s but this CD holds to the standard of the classic Tull works of the 1970s. I most appreciate the instrumentals and wish Tull would do entire albums of instrumentals.
The only flaw might be that the instrumental "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" sometimes comes off like a shaving cream commercial (Old Spice perhaps?) but don't let that minor nuance put you off. This is the only Christmas CD I can think of worth keeping. Unlike the rest of the industry, this is not one of those, "throw a seasonal spin on the lyrics and add some triangle to the rhythm section" farces. Because it avoids dependence upon too many drearily predictable holiday standards it makes for good listening any time of year.
I purchased my copy the year it debuted so I'm curious about the contents of the DVD that is now bundled with this as a set.
Classic new Tull not just for Xmas

Album Rating: (5 of 5 stars)
Review Comments: Ian Anderson and his crew are in fine form on this 2005 album, which includes many of his long-time band mates and a couple of younger musicians. Tull takes a brave approach with almost all new music, although many classic Xmas themes can be heard throughout.
While lacking the hard edge of many Jethro Tull classics, it is worth savoring and sharing with friends during any time of the year. Likely to remain on both holiday and Tull playlists for many decades to come.

Review Comments: Is vintage Tull - a bit off the wall Christmas thing but not bad if you just like his style.
First Snow on Brooklyn hooked me

Review Comments: Like this album so much that , though I gave my copy away thinking I'll get another one next year, I am not going to wait. If only I could have caught their show in November.
