Genuinely beautiful

Review Comments: Whether or not this is your cup of tea (it is first and foremost folk/country music), nobody can deny that the music found in this CD is genuinely beautiful arrangements.
Aside from that, personally I find that Mindy Smith has one of the sweetest voices in the world, and she uses it to her advantage in his amazing debut album.
Mindy Smith's songs are all about soul, and not R&B soul. Just your own soul. It's easy to close your eyes and lose yourself in the music. It's guitars plucked gently with a wonderfully symbolic echoing throughout every track.
Particularly favorable tracks include: Raggedy-Anne, Falling, Hurricane, Fighting for it All, Angel Doves, and, One Moment More.
Mindy Smith's voice and lyrics give her away. She's suffered a great deal in so many forums of her life. Some would argue that it was so she could make this deep and mature sort of music, as no-one can fake the sadness heard in each track.
If you're in a mood to shed a tear or two, give this album a go. She's one of the best artists in the world.

Review Comments: I heard about this cd when I saw the video of 'Jolene' on CMT. This artist's version was so hauntingly beautiful, I just knew the rest of the cd would be great! WRONG! All of the other songs bored me to death.
I do not recommend spending dollars on this cd. Just download 'Jolene', which is well worth a listen.

Soothing and Memorable

Review Comments: I don't know why I selected this CD to listen to today, but I'm glad I did because it has set a calm tone for a busy day. I've had it for a few years and it got lost in the pile. When I heard the song "Raggedy Ann," I was reminded of how and why songs become personal classics. I like to relate to what I listen to and what I read and nearly every song in this collection qualfies.

Great debut albulm

Review Comments: Every singer/songwriter has to start somewhere and this CD is an amazing start. Her next two releases are even better, but anyone wishing to hear outstanding warm vocals coupled with heartfelt, soulful songwriting should buy this CD. If she fit better into a typical genre, she'd be selling millions of CDs. The best and most difficult thing about mixing styles is that record labels don't know how to market the music. Mindy Smith is going to continue to be a powerful singer/songwriter for many years. I teach a Popular Music course and have to keep up with all kinds of music. This is one of the few artists that I continue to keep up with out of pure love of the music. Her 2nd CD was even more to my liking since the lyrics were a little more upbeat.
