Music by Jack Williams

Album Rating: (5 of 5 stars)
Review Comments: I first saw Jack Williams perform in 1999-2000...... I was working when I heard him start playing, his music, lyrics, & vocals made me stop working & was entranced ..... continued working but with a renewed energy ..... odd but great.... So finally having all of Jack's CD's that I am aware of is great....
When Jack finished performing (so long ago when I first saw him) ..... he was as personable, deep, charming, thought provoking & as soothing as his music. A real down to earth class act.
Surely, Amazon wanted a "customer service" review... so..... they had Jack's CD's in Stock so ***** (stars)
Other music by Jack, "Laughing in the Face of the Blues", "Across the Winterline", "Eternity & Main", and "Dreams of the Song Dog"
Folksy, Rocking, Jazzy, Lively, Soothing, Upbeat, Soulful.....
Legendary Acoustic Guitarist

Review Comments: The Orlando Sentinel said, "The word is good on this purveyor of 'Southern-American' contemporary folk music -- 'best guitar player I've ever heard,' says Pete Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary. The South Carolina guitarist/singer/songwriter, near-legendary among acoustic guitarists, has avoided the 'compromises' of commercial music during his 40-plus-year career, preferring to work the road, playing coffeehouses, concerts, festivals and house concerts."
If you haven't heard this, what are you waiting for?

Review Comments: I have had the pleasure of being friends with Jack Williams for a little over three years, so this review will be somewhat prejudiced in his favor. But even if I didn't know the guy personally, he just knocks me out!
Jack, first of all, is an incredible writer. The melodies and lyrics dovetail into vivid portraits of life, primarily in the American South, an area Jack knows very well. Secondly, his guitar playing is not so much accompaniment to his singing, but is rather a second voice embellishing his own. Very few acoustic singer/songwriters seem to accomplish this, and Jack pulls it off without a hitch!!!
"Eternity And Main" is the follow-up to his album, "Across The Winterline", which stayed in my CD player for almost 6 months before I started listening to other things. This disc is every bit as masterfully produced and executed as the previous release, but enters into other areas formerly not explored. In addition to the crystal-clear imagery of the title song, and the happy-go-lucky attitude of the opening tune, "Hometown Boy", Williams displays unusual expertise in songs about the Old West in "Renegade Blood" and "The Outlaw's Dream". Along for the ride as back-up musicians, among others, are Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen, who are legends of their own on the acoustic music scene.
Once you have heard "Eternity And Main", the smartest thing to do is to go back and pick up the rest of Jack's catalogue. The previously mentioned "Winterline" is required listening in my book for anyone who is writing songs for Americana audiences, and the recently re-released "Dreams Of The Song Dog" is great fun. Jack's earliest solo album, "Highway From Back Home", is very hard to find (there weren't that many to start with), and he has worked with the great Mickey Newbury on several of his recordings. Better you should start here and work your way back...I do believe you're going to enjoy this a lot!!!
