Review Comments: I don't know if I'm qualified to call anything a masterpiece, but this CD gets my highest recommendation. Anderson puts himself firmly in the company of some of the greatest musicians of all time with this. It's some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard. It's very fresh and clean sounding, as if it comes from Eden or Heaven uncontaminated by psychological pollution.
A work of genius

Review Comments: The Secret Language Of Birds easily shows how gifted Ian Anderson is. It's amazing that after so many years he's managed to create this unique masterpiece of acoustic songs.
Jethro Tull's own acoustic moments are as superb as they come so this album shouldn't really come as a surprise. But what makes it special is its consistency which makes all songs flow into the next in a perfect fashion.
Ian plays and sings flawlessly and is helped on all tracks by Jethro Tull's Andrew Giddings who provides a variety of textures from accordion to orchestral sounds. It is also worthy of mention that Andrew worked on Ian's all-instrumental 1995 album Divinities.
If I had to highlight some songs I'd choose The Secret Language Of Birds, The Water Carrier, A Better Moon and Circular Breathing but these would only serve as a guideline as all songs are great nevertheless.
The Secret Language Of Birds endures as an album of beautiful music and deserves a listen if you haven't got it.
This is Ian's best solo album by far and it should be praised as such.
Awesome!

Review Comments: I admit I don't know much about Ian Anderson's music other than Aqualung (one of my first albums as a kid) and Thick As a Brick, plus I saw Jethro Tull in concert in 1975, but this is awesome! I'm also seeing him at the Beacon Theater in October, so this is a good prelude to that.
Bright, original and creative

Review Comments: This is very happy, uplifting music. If you want to discover how Ian Anderson and his music has evolved and matured - this is your top choice. Makes you want to dance. Surprisingly my cats enjoy it as much as I do. Rupi's Dance is another one that is in this vein as well - order them both.
A Great Piece Of Work

Review Comments: The Secret Language of Birds has so many strong songs, I'll just say that it is one of my favorite group of songs by Ian Anderson. This album with the follow-up, Rupi's Dance, represent some of Ian's best work. There are many "reminders" of earlier songs sprinkled throughout these newer works. As always the performance of the musicians is beyond reproach, and the quality of the recording and mixing earns "full marks". Finally, over the last decade Ian's flute playing(concert, bamboo etc.) reached quite another level. Once again....I wait in anticipation of Ian's next work.
