No doubt one of the albums I could be stuck on a desert island with...

Review Comments: Hands-down one of my favorite albums of all time. A bold statement, I know, but this music is so soothing, so appropriate for so many settings, I find myself reaching for it again and again. The kora is exquisite and I know of no other instrument that can lull me into equally peaceful and ecstatic states, as it.
Do yourself a great service, and purchase this album. Take a deep breath and settle in for some relaxing vibrations.
toumani is a musical virtuoso

Review Comments: I had heard the Kora played on "Jali Kunda:Griots of West Africa", and was captivated by the sound, so i went on a search for Kora music and came across this album. The first time I listened to this, I was blown completely out of the water. This is the type of album that if you buy and put on as background music at a mellow dinner party, everyone will comment on the beautiful music. At the same time however, if you step past the relaxing and soothing exterior and carefully listen to the quality of the musicianship and the unique aspects of every song, well...let's just say WOW! First of all I can't even begin to describe the complex harmonies that toumani and ballake create, AND how unbelievable the FEELING they create through the music. These songs are like stories without words. Age-Old tales of love and joy and sorrow and life and death in which every emotion is painted with a vivid palette.
Great music

Review Comments: There is something both ancient and eternal about this harp playing and you can let yourself be carried on the soft waves of this music. This is probably the purest and best of all the harp recordings. I bought it by chance when in South Africa in 2000.

Review Comments: New Ancient Strings
The sound of the kora is magical, and this album for two koras is wonderful.
You will hear the performance of two masters of the kora, and a wonderful selection of Malian music.
Diabate and Sissoko are incandescent on this recording: hightest rating.
