Great for lovers of the weird and bluegrass

Album Rating: (5 of 5 stars)

Review Comments: Just good singing and songs if sometimes kind of silly. I got this for my brother for Christmas as he is a huge bluegrass fan and he enjoyed it a lot. He works for a spook group many of whom are fluent in Russian and they all thought it was a hoot. Highly recommended; particularly if you are fluent in Russian or like bluegrass and excellent picking.

A nice diversion and bit of diversity

Album Rating: (4 of 5 stars)

Review Comments: Russian bluegrass?!?! Kukuruza (Corn in Russian) puts together a fun, energetic collection of bluegrass-style music, mostly in Russian language. I don't know bluegrass well, nor Russia, but I think that one listens to the music you have a real sense of the Russian steppes and country life in a way that you would not were it in English - or done by Americans. The Russian culture is truly a culture of the soil, dating back thousands of years and remaining to this day.

My Russian speaking friends find this interesting, strange, silly, and well simply like nothing they know. I'm sure any American will say the same.

Kukuruza

Album Rating: (5 of 5 stars)

Review Comments: Kukuruza is super....wonderful bluegrass music with a Russian twist! Really makes you think you're "Back in the USSR" yuk yuk!

Jerry Douglas, one of the best Dobro players in the U.S. who plays with Allison Krauss,, adds to this CD as well bigtime.

Kak Krasiva!

If you want your hair to stand on end

Album Rating: (5 of 5 stars)

Review Comments: try playing this a bit louder than you would ordinarily play bluegrass. I had the pleasure to see these folks in person (playing in a church) and Ms. Surina's voice literally shook the rafters.

Wonderful

how can you go wrong with russian bluegrass?

Album Rating: (5 of 5 stars)

Review Comments: many of these songs are traditional russian folk songs, played on bluegrass instruments. the result is a perfect blend of russian and appalacian folk music. THe pickin' is great, and the vocals are superb.
