Artist Biography:
The songs may be fine-tipped in their melodic and emotional detail, but the songwriter comes from an expansive world, and it shows. Born in Germany and living at various times in England, Greece, Mexico, Honduras, and the U.S., Elías Krell writes in the high and heightened spirit of classical art song and complex South American pop on one hand, and organic folk and confessional minimalism on the other. Their debut studio record, As Eli, is predominantly acoustic and understated, but revels in the luxuriant sonics of international swank pop on such production showpieces as ‘60s cover tune “Under my umbrella” and the record’s thematic linchpin “All of us (is gone now).” The bilingual singer offers two tracks in Spanish, Krell's own "Horizonte," and, "Canción de las simples cosas," a song made famous by one of Krell's personal heroes, Costa Rican singer Chavela Vargas. Krell tours actively in North, Central, and South America.
