Focus On: Peter Rowan & Tony Rice

The 32nd Kent State Folk Festival revived Bluegrass Night with two giants of the genre. Peter Rowan and Tony Rice are not only on top of the list of Bluegrass performers, they are innovators as well, looking for ways to incorporate new sounds into the house that Bill Monroe built. Rowan played and sang alongside the master as a member of the Blue Grass Boys before heading in a different direction with David Grisman. Rice also spent time performing with Grisman, as well as stretching the boundaries with JD Crowe and the New South. Now, the pair comes together on stage with members of the next generation for outstanding musicianship with flair.

For years, I have always loved Peter's "Land of the Navajo"! Each time it seems he gives a better performance. This time took it up another step! Wow!!! I would guess a pinnacle, but with Peter, you never know! Fantastic!

Unbelieveable. I was at this show and having seen Tony and John multiple times at Merlefest and oher venues I cannot name a better flat picker than Tony. He never ceases to amaze me and never makes a mistake. Jorma and Chris Smither included, which is pretty high company. John is fair at best but they compliment each other very well. Just one mans opinion. If you know someone better please let me know. Thanks!
