Focus On: Guy Clark - Live from Newport 2009

While growing up in Texas, country music legend Guy Clark learned his craft on a 12 dollar Mexican guitar. The first songs he learned were mostly in Spanish. Clark was raised in the town of Monahans by his Grandmother (who also ran the town hotel). In later years, Clark used his colorful life experiences as inspiration for his best songs, such as "Desperados Waiting for a Train," and "Texas 1947."

Over the decades, Clark's thoughtful, meticulous songwriting has garnered the lasting respect of fellow musicians. Numerous artists have charted with Clark-penned tunes. His songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, David Allan Coe, Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, and many others.

Recorded live at the Harbor Stage at George Wein's Folk Festival 50 at Newport by engineers Bob Potter and Craig Adams.

Beautiful music!

I'm an old folkie and have seen some of the greats and 'soon-to-be' greats in years past. But since I've been living and working in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for over a decade, I'm sorrily lacking of any live music, never mind good ol' folk music. So, discovering Folk Alley has been a such a treat for these ears, (that's as long as my internet connection here stays up). Currently enjoying the Guy Clark performance at Newport. After listening to Folk Alley, I can't wait to get back into the Folk scene once I move back to Alberta, Canada this June.
