Kasey Chambers

Kasey Chambers

When Kasey Chambers was still an infant, her parents bundled her and her bother Nash up and headed out to the Australian wilderness (the family supported themselves by hunting foxes). The close-knit clan often harmonized together by singing campsongs around the fire and when they emerged from Nullarbor Plain a decade later, Chambers? parents Bill and Diane formed the Dead Ringer Band. Kasey and Nash joined along and soon the popular country/bluegrass group was being honored with ARIA awards (the Australian Grammy). As Kasey reached into her teens, she began testing the boundaries of being one of the most recognizable female country singers. Bill and Diane?s divorce in 1998 also broke up the Dead Ringer Band and Kasey headed out on her own as a solo act (albeit with backing support from Bill and Nash as her producer).

Since the release of The Captain in 1999, Chambers has risen to the top of the Australian country music charts and made serious inroads into the North American market. She has received seven ARIAs as a single act, including three for Best Female Artist, three for Best Country Album and the Album of the Year prize for Barricades & Brickwalls in 2002. Her fourth solo CD, Carnival, will be released on Sept. 12, just before her appearance at the Austin City Limits Music Festival to show off a new rockin? approach.
