Bob Dylan - Everywhere

August 30, 2005

Bob Dylan's latest compilation of more than 2-dozen bootleg tracks was released today on the Legacy label. The Bootleg Series, Vol. 7: No Direction Home - The Soundtrack arrives a few weeks before the new documentary by Martin Scorsese that chronicles Dylan's early days (the movie focuses on 1961-66) and his transformation from Woody Guthrie acolyte to pop god. The film version of No Direction Home airs on PBS stations across the U.S. as a two-part special installment on American Masters on Sept. 26 and 27 (check local listings for times). For those of you in the U.K., it will also air on BBC2's Arena series on Sept. 26. It's a reunion of sorts for Dylan and Scorsese, who directed The Last Waltz, a documentary of the final concert of The Band (who, of course, started out backing up Dylan).

On Sept. 20 (a week before it airs on tv - go figure), No Direction Home - The Documentary arrives in stores. And, on Sept. 13, Simon & Schuster publishes The Bob Dylan Scrapbook - 1956-1966, offering pictures, lyrics, interviews, memorabilia and a CD that will tie into the film as well.

Anybody have any idea when Chronicles, Vol. II will be published? Vol. I was great.

Looking forward to Scorcese's new documentary. I'll be showing it for my students in a music-based writing class.

Please send me a form if possible, e-mail so I can make a contribution. I have been a supporter for years but have slacked for quite awhile. I love K.S.U. for the folk music only. I absolutely hate N.P.R. for all the liberal views they shove down the American people's throats. I love K.S.U. for music only so I will never again be a big giver as I once was. It sure would please me if you forward my comments to someone who could make a much needed change. Just do the right thing report the news. (PERIOD)

Bob Dylan for President? I'm all for it!

I figure we're due a leader that can speak proficiently and meaningful. I am sad that I can't be involved in politics, but I've all but ostracized myself from any interest. I turn away when I try to listen to them speak. Dylan, to me, conveys beautifully. Instead of people listening to politicians and getting angry, disgusted and/or laughing, how about if we actually could get to tilt our heads and ponder and say Hmmmmmm.

I am off to the store today to score my Dylan goodie. I gobble up anything that cat releases. It's poetry and magic to me.

I was listening to Highway 61 Revisisted on the way to work. Probably the 53rd time I've listened to it. Still makes me smile.

Maybe in his presidential speech he could encourage us to take things less seriously that didn't amount to much (materialism and greed) and maybe pay more attention to some answers which apparently he feels is hanging out up there with the wind somewhere.

What would he say to $5.00 per gallon gas? ( :

Not everywhere! Not if HMV Canada has anything to do with it.

straight out of a mark twain era burlesque... every one will be sOoo convinced they saw a little "ankle", scorsese will see to that. it's all about the "tease"... the "mystery"... stay tuned to part 2 ... and the excititing (non-climax) of part 3... but don't we love it. "sing them songs", bob!

DYLAN,cousin Eddie said it in jest, but with DYLAN it rings true. It"s the gift that keeps giving all year long.
