Get Us to The Top of the Heap

August 4, 2004

Whenever anyone writes to me at Folk Alley, I always ask that person to spread the word by telling a friend or several, about our online service.

Here's another way to help Folk Alley. When you tell a friend, ask him/her to add a button to Folk Alley if he/she manages a Web site or a blog. If you have your own Web site or Weblog, add a button to your site that links to FolkAlley.com. To add a button, go to http://www.folkalley.com/fankit/promotions.php

Why will this help Folk Alley? In the crazy world of Web searches, the more links inbound to a site, the more likely it will land at the top of the heap in a search on Google. We want FolkAlley.com at the top anytime someone searches for anything remotely related to folk music.

We're trying to count and keep track of these "inbound links," so if you add one, write to me at donna@folkalley.com with your URL. I'll reciprocate by adding a link on Folk Alley to your Web site.

We have a goal of getting 50 inbound links by our first anniversary in September. We're well on our way, but with a little help from the Folk Alley community, we can certainly reach our goal.

I do a good bit of link sticking in plain html on my blog http://members.lycos.nl/vadercats/logbriefer.htm and most recent archived issues have one or two .. . ..

. . .. . matter of fact I was suprised to find myself high up the google ranks when searching for/with: 'bleugrass radio internet' since I shop around from time to time and can say in a very heartfelt way that folkalley beats the competition, none of which come close to suiting my tastes as well.

Apropo google links:

http://www.folkalley.com/music/song.php?song=2000

Artist: Douglas/Barenberg/Meyer

Song: The Earl of Hyndford/Open the Prese

Album: Skip, Hop and Wobble

Songwriter:

Record Company: Sugar Hill / No: 3817

Last Play: Friday, August 6, 2004 4:31 AM ----

be aware that one of the three search pages you offer, notably the google link begets a misleading hits, namely none, whereas this one: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=%22Douglas+Barenberg+Meyer%22&btnG=Search gets you quite close just fine.

-- the way you guys formulated the search terms "The Earl of Hyndford/Open the Prese" "Douglas/Barenberg/Meyer" is half correct and used with the names but not the titles here www.jr.com/ and here www.epinions.com/ thus: Skip, Hop & Wobble - Jerry Douglas/Barenberg/Meyer ---

I suggest you alter the terms to something like just performers' names in this case.

Thanks again, and if I ever get a credit card or better yet if stuff like www.ledgerism.com ever starts easing war and upping the finer fun I'll send ya lot some support.

I email this site to all my friends and everyone here in my town (Asheville, NC) asks me about Folk Alley when they see my window sticker!
