Folk Music Walk of Fame Launched in Ottawa

October 6, 2003

Six bronze maple leaf shaped plaques were unveiled as the Canadian Folk Music Walk of Fame was dedicated on Saturday. The original inductees - who were chosen through voting on the Internet, e-mail and magazine ballots - are Stan Rogers, Bruce Cockburn, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Jean Carignan, and Helen Creighton. The ceremony was coordinated by the Ottawa Folklore Centre.

Ottawa 1966 - That is where I first saw the finest in music. The Lehebu. Joni Mitchell before her first album. Tim Hardin. Gordon Lightfoot, and so many more. I thought at 16 I had died and gone to heaven. Music like I had never had the pleasure of hearing or seeing. Ottawa was a city to be in awe of everything, Parliment Buildings, river, and it's people. Leave it to them to introduce a Walk of Fame for some of the most important people of all time.
